College marketing campaign features Loyalist PR grad Melissa Gruber (07/08)

Congrats to Melissa Gruber (Loyalist PR 07/08) who is featured in Loyalist College's new "Where do you want to work?" campaign.

Melissa is currently employed as Communications Co-ordinator at CARFAC National in Ottawa.

Record-breaking year for Loyalist PR's community fundraising efforts

This has been a record-breaking year for community fundraising in the Post-Graduate Public Relations Program here at Loyalist. Last semester, students raised more than $15,000 for the United Way of Quinte with its first-ever Campus Truckload Sale.

This semester, students raised an additional $3,500 for such organizations as Make-a-Wish Foundation, Kids Help Phone, Plainfield Community Homes, Fixed Fur Life, Salvation Army relief efforts in Japan, Quinte Arts Council and Quinte Conservation.

In addition, student teams gathered more than 1,600 kilograms (that's 3,520 pounds!) of food for the Gleaners Food Bank. Wow - way to go, everyone! You've made an entire college campus proud this year!

Loyalist PR hosts free community media workshops for non-profit community

For the fifth consecutive year, the Post-Graduate Public Relations students of Loyalist College hosted a free community workshop series for members of the non-profit community this past week.

Several dozen participants attended the eight workshops, which covered topics ranging from online networking and virtual fundraising to creative collaboration and social media press releases.

Thanks to all our guests, as well as the Loyalist PR students who delivered their material with great skill and confidence.

Quinte Spring Tweet-Up packs the house

What a great time last night at the Quinte Spring Tweet-Up! Held at the Winchester Arms in Belleville, more than 50 local tweeters turned out to meet up and get to know one another.

The crowd included students, faculty, business owners, politicians, members of the local media and people interested in social media.

Congratulations to the student team that organized the event: Troy Stewart, Erica Holgate, Kyle Tuck and Nancy Van De Bogart. Great job, guys!

Networking breakfast strikes a chord with local professional communicators

Yesterday's News Canada Breakfast & Idea Exchange at the Fairfield Marriott Inn & Suites in Belleville attracted more than 85 professional communicators from the Quinte region and beyond.

Keynote speaker Martin Waxman (see photo above) of energi PR delivered an excellent presentation on "The New PR", focusing on the way social media is changing the way we do business.

Loyalist PR grad at Women of the World Event

Congratulations to Loyalist PR graduate Ashley MacCormack (07/08), now with the Ottawa Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society, on her recent involvement with the 3rd Annual "Women of the World" event.

In attendance were Laureen Harper, wife of the Prime Minister, as well as guest speaker silver medal Olympian Elizabeth Manley (pictured here with Ashley, above) and many other notable women.
