Kiss paper-based monitoring good-bye...

Special thanks to Lora Turner of Canada News Wire (CNW) who visited Loyalist PR students today to demonstrate the company’s online media monitoring product known as Mediavantage.

Launched on April 1, 2005, Mediavantage offers online broadcast, print and Internet monitoring capabilities that are accessible from any desktop anywhere in the world.

The service is the first of its kind in Canada.

To date, Lora says the product’s top users have included health care organizations, PR firms, municipalities and governments.

Besides recognizing the many impressive features of the online media monitoring service, Loyalist PR students noted that podcasts might also be included in the product’s monitoring net. Lora says podcasts will soon be added to the Mediavantage service.

"Ultimately, we are looking to move people from a paper-based environment to an online environment,” Lora explains.

And not a moment too soon, so say we all.

Really apprciated today's guest speaker from CNW. Good to see that technology is taking a step forward, and it is clear to me that this new monitoring system will save a lot of time (and trees!) for all communicators.

One thing that may have been omitted is how costly this service is. If I remember correctly, it's in the thousands per month, which PR firms can only afford if their clients are willing to pay for it. Therefore, only those who can afford it are using it.

It's a neat service, though.
